is back: after the succinctly titled first album for Trisol,
on their brand new album ‘Rotten Roma Casino’ the charismatic
Italian heartbreaker SIMONE SALVATORI’s band once again define
that which they have shaped like no other: ‘suicide pop’.
That is to say: melancholy melodies, stirring guitar chords,
emotional vocals and yearning string passages, but also solid-groove
beats and macabre phrases. Just as the recipe was fully finalised
on ‘Armageddon Gigolo’, which defined the genre single-handedly,
‘Rotten Roma Casino’ goes a decisive step further. They once
more summoned together the proven ensemble featuring chamber
musicians associated with ENNIO MORRICONE and created a whole
series of musical gems which you can’t get out of your head
after just a single hearing. As per the title, it’s about
Rome – a metaphorical, decadent Rome however, a parallel to
the Roma of FELLINI, full of wonder, monstrosities and passions.
They pay homage to the orgiastic, wild and ambiguous in such
a way, particularly on the intense video clips which are featured
on the bonus DVD, as to conjure up the immortal spirit of
RAINER WERNER FASSBINDER. The doleful ‘Sad Almost A Winner’
orientates itself towards his homoerotic melodrama, ‘Fox and
his Friends’, while the clip for ‘Darkroom Friendship’ pays
homage to the promiscuous bisexual passion of frontman SALVATORI.
Shimmering skin in the twilight – ‘a friendship made of flesh
and lust’. SALVATORI acknowledges that without FASSBINDER’s
controversial ‘sex and death’ drama ‘Querelle’, he probably
wouldn’t have founded SPIRITUAL FRONT. To all this are added
harmonies which seem to derive from the legendary creators
of film music, ENNIO MORRICONE and NINO ROTA. SPIRITUAL FRONT
carry their unmistakeable Italian spirit into the post-modern.
With ‘Rotten Roma Casino’, SPIRITUAL FRONT consciously shake
off their underground roots in order to invent their own unique
variety of morbid folk-pop which blends indie rock, acoustic
chords and tango into a new, intense and above all heartrending,
genuine mixture. In a varied sequence of romantic, vibrant,
cynical, sad and occasionally gruesome ballads, we dive into
the incomparable world of SPIRITUAL FRONT: Kiss The Girls
And Make Them Die’ as well as ‘Sad Almost A Winner’ or ‘Cold
Love (In A Cold Coffin)’. It is still ELVIS PRESLEY’s libertine
little brother: HELLVIS. With auratic timbre in his voice,
he once again sings about the impossibility of love and the
pain which it leaves behind. Love, it is said, (also) tastes

at the same time mature and majestic musical work, without

Peaceful Snow / The Maverick Chamber ltd.7” out 23-8.Extremocidente
proudly announces the imminent release of Death In June’s
“Peaceful Snow/The Maverick Chamber” 7”. The two songs are
the first new material to come to light since ‘The Rule of
Thirds’. These new tracks offer not only the same radical
departure from more complex song arrangements as in the previous
album but this time also a departure from the use of acoustic
guitar as the instrument chosen to accompany Douglas Pearce’s
voice is the piano played by Miro Snejder. Some might be tempted
to say this is a new direction for Death In June yet we have
to disagree, as for almost 30 years this has been a ship that
has maintained it’s course against all odds. This edition
is limited to 880 numbered copies and comes pressed in pink
vinyl and housed on a cover with embossed lettering and debossed
foilblock Whiphand logo. The record comes with a lyric sheet/insert

MILITIA
– Archive Collection 1996-1997 digiCD neuropa out 27-7 0 (npr27/EAN
8016670224341) The first chapter of Militia's Archive Collection
takes us back to their 1996-1997 recordings. The disc holds
six tracks taken from the 'War against Society' compilation,
the 'Pain/Familiedrama' tracks featuring Con-Dom and Laura
Maes and ends with the 'Kingdom of our Lord' mcd. All tracks
were previously released by the now defunct German cult-label
Praxis Dr. Bearmann. A nice appetizer for Militia's upcoming
album 'Power, Propaganda, Production!'. An essential piece

With ‘Retro’, IN MY ROSARY close a circle 18 years after their
formation. After Ralf Jesek and Dirk Lakomy have tried all
possible variations of their IMR concept in the past, they
now return to their origins with their actual album. “Pathetically
speaking, and after trying out the boundaries of our concept,
it was simply time to turn back to our ‘radical’ roots. No
compromises!” - IMR thus returned to their original way of
working: All demos have been written with vocals, guitars
and a 4-track recorder only – and this ‘stipped down’ concept
can also be found on the final recordings, on which the band
limited their equiment to a stereo-rhythm machine, two keyboards
and a few guitars. ‘RETRO’ therefore is the result of an experiment,
a ‘looking back to our roots’ for IMR. Also a novelty is the
fact, that on this album the two musicians worked with a high
number of guests: Sara Noxx, Christian Doerge and Stan_I (from
the Russian gothic-band Stillife) have contributed with their
vocals, while the English Psychpop-Guru Paul Roland honoured
the band with his first ever guitar-solo. Other guest are
Marlene Wagner of Lakobeil, Wolfgang Koch of the German Goth-rockers
Tors of Dartmoor, Tobias Birkenbeil (ex-Dracul) and Martin

is a part of The Netherlands), the lowlands by the North Sea.
Clogs, wind-mills, tullips, dikes and (semi-) legal soft drugs.
And in the 80s mass unemployment, a strong anti-nuke campaign
and squatting: the perfect, solid basis for doing your own
music. No pressure for time or money. As the Dutch writer
Martin Bril once noted: 'in the 80s we were all on the dole,
bought a record, made cassettes of it for all our friends
and did a nice hand colored cover around it' - which is perhaps
a more happy remembrance of the 80s than something grey and
dull. If there is anything that connects the musicians on
this collection, it's this shared background. The 'Do-It-Yourself'
ethic, an esthetic of (post-) punk runs through all of this,
and not just in music, but also in organising your own fun.
Nexda with their cassette shop and stage Studio 12 in Haarlem,
or Young Lions' Harold Schellinx with Wally van Middendorp
of Minny Pops their Ultra series. Ultra? Though far from a
unique movement at all, but nevertheless referred to by some
as Ultra - kind of No New York, with the same broad musical
interest. From downright doomy post-punk to electronic and
even free-form improvisation (although hardly a saxophone
in sight - it's a Belgium invention). All gathered around
the Dutch magazine Vinyl - famous for its flexi disc, founded
by musicians and duly delivering all the right information,
from say Talking Heads to Tox Modell. The first issue had
Mekanik Kommando, local Nijmegen heroes and one of the best
bands of the era. Their line-up of two bass players, synth,
rhythmachine and occasional small other instruments, is the
perfect example of such free play in music, yet it never sounds
'difficult' - far from it. Along with their fellow citizens
Vice, Bazooka and Das Wesen, they released their own records,
on their own label. After twenty-five years hardly anyone
on this compilation creates music like this; everybody went
on to pursue other interests, inside or outside music. But
then lots of these musicians started at a whole different
place: the Visitor was once a folk band, members of Mekanik
Kommando played jazz rock, while members of Nexda were busking
in France (and after Nexda going back to just doing that).
Following mass unemployment, nuclear threat, we went to out
to get a job, a house and shares. Hardly a surprise that this
compilation arrives in the lowest economic ebb since... well,
the 80s. It's the paradox of new economy, the job, the house
and the shares. This is hardly a movement as such, hardly
cold wave, but mere garage music (rather than the home tapers
in their bedrooms), side stepping popmusic. Cold wave? As
I write this I see, outside the train I am sitting in, through
the lowlands, a field covered with snow. It's no longer the
80s, it's 2010. The coldest winter in years, still a cold

was released in 2005) by the German SM-Gothic formation Umbra
Et Imago (Latin for ‘Shadow and Image’) and declared to be
their last album EVER (while the band will concentrate on

future). Umbra et Imago were formed in 1991 and initially
(first 2 albums) was a genuine dark electro wave goth band.
They then evolved into a gothic metal-/Neue Deutsche Härte-band.
In picking up Sigmund Freud's idea that sexuality was the
center of our being they processed sadomasochistic fantasies
through their cynic lyrics. The band is famous for incorporating
BDSM acts and complex pyrotechnics into their live shows.
Band leader Mozart has subsequently reached the status of
the undiscussed leader of a SM sub-culture in Germany far
across the borders of the ‘Gothic’-scene. Recently he got
big attention in the popular mainstream press, thanks to a
duet with boxing world champion Regina Halmich. With ‘Opus

Digipak with booklet. Austrian Allerseelen is - 2 years after
their successful album ‘Hallstatt’ - back with a brand-new
album that fascinates musically as well as optically: Rauhe
Schale (Rough Shell). Already a first sight into the beautiful
booklet shows that this cd differs in various ways from previous
albums: although performing ‘live’ with various chamging members
in many cities in North America, Europe and Russia, in the
studio Allerseelen was almost a solo-project by its founder
Gerhard Hallstatt, assisted from time to time by various guests.
This has changed now, as also in the studio Allerseelen has
become a real group with electronics, bass, electric guitar
and drums. On several pieces we find contributions by two
well-known violinists from the world of neo-folk and folk
metal. Apart from Dimo Dimov who not only drums but also plays
electric guitar on some songs and the bassist Marcel P., Allerseelen
this time also features the two violinists Meri Tadic - from
Swiss folk metal band ELUVEITIE - and Annabel Lee, the violinist
of the American formation BLOOD AXIS. ‘Rauhe Schale’ moves
and flows in a field of force between industrial, folklore,
pop and metal. The album will for sure appeal to Neofolk addicts,
but this time also fans of such diverse projects as Nine Inch
Nails, Einstürzende Neubauten, Laibach or Underworld could
fall in love as well! We find songs with a powerful metal
atmosphere as well as electro-nic, industrial recordings,
and some minutes later one is confronted with songs that sound
more like dark pop. Gerhard sometimes describes his music
as Electronic Folklore or Apocalyptic Rock. ‘Rauhe Schale’
is rough, tough and hard like ‘Hallstatt’ that received enthusiastic
feedback. The songs were inspired by various magical mystery
tours in Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Italy and Slovenia!

act. The sound of the album is more acoustic than recent releases
of the band and almost all songs are following the verse/chorus/verse
rule. Acoustic and Classic guitars are the main instruments
at the base of the compositions, flutes and delicate synths
create, then, light arrangements giving that ethereal mood
that will be more present in the following releases of the
band. The vocal parts are equally divided among the male one
(Federico) and the female ones (Viola and Raffaella) creating
a perfect balance between heavenly/frail and profound/dark

Amesha Spentas CD Eldar (Marc Merinee & Merce Spica) returns
with a new album and with their significant mixture of dark-ambient
and bombastic martial music. As always they choose the title
for their album related to a philosophical and mystical meaning.
On "Amesha Spentas" the songs has been created based on the
work by Goya, from the conceptual point of view. Viewing these
works through an occult philosophy. Each song is placed in
a specific historical moment. All sounds and instruments are
also chosen specifically for each songs individual concept.
Using multitude of synths, samples, tools (metals, knives,
bowls, pipes, wood, etc.) together with field recordings.
Creating that special dark haunted atmosphere that has become
wellknown as the ELDAR sound. Urban Alonso, who created the
conceptual artwork, is a graphic designer well known in Spain
by different musical genres, also as a musician under the

Derniere Volonte`s 5th studio album took 4 years in making

Background: A Little Hard To Swallow ends Rozz Williams' initial
foray into experimenal music. Made in 1982, Rozz returned
to some of the sounds and live recordings included in the
earlier PE works and edited them in with many new recordings
and samples. He had become more confident in his abilities
and as a result A Little Hard To Swallow is much more structured
than its predecessors and can be considered the first truly
classic PE recording. Tracks: 01 Disc A 44:34 02 Disc B 45:27
A Little Hard To Swallow consists of a long sequence of untitled
tracks spread over two sides. Since the original cassette
recording featured few, if any, distinguishable track breaks
we felt it important not to arbitary separate each single
piece of music for the CD release. Rozz had obviously intended
for the music to be enjoyed as a continous listening experience
rather than for each piece to be listened to in isolation.
This would not be the last time that Rozz used such tactics.
A Little Hard To Swallow also incorporates the use of samples
and there are some vocalisation and spoken word sequences
as well as live jam recordings. Artwork: The original cassette
sleeve for A Little Hard To Swallow survives and is also in
the possession of Ron Marrs. The sleeve features a black and
white image and above it are the words 'A brain operation,
showing a bone drill boring through the skull.' In addition,
Rozz superimposed an image of an eye to complete the artwork.
The original cassette artwork was quite plain and grainy,
and so we decided to transform the image completely to give
it a more dramatic effect for the cd release. We also chose
to move the text to underneath the image. The next task was
to remove the crease lines on the cassette sleeve from the
scanned artwork and then decide on the design for the back
cover. With only one image to work from, consideration was
given to selecting other artwork or images from Rozz's vast
body of work. However, we felt that we should be faithful
to the original cassette and adding unconnected images would
only distract and mislead fans. Our solution was to just use
the image of the eye but to turn the iris green. The Lost
Recordings skull logo is also featured. We again chose to
incorporate a barcode to the back cover in keeping with many
previous PE releases. Since the barcodes used by Rozz were
purely decorative and served no other purpose, it was our
intention to use a replica of the one on the 1989 issue of
the Death Cultures cassette. The use of the barcode will be

Living Monstrosities/Descent 2CD out 10-5 (MAL4/EAN 8016670233442)
Background: Rozz Williams returned to his interest in creating
experimenal music in 1985, following his departure from Christian
Death. He had met Chuck Collison the previous winter and the
pair immediately made plans to work together under the moniker
The Happiest Place on Earth. Living Monstrosities / Descent
would appear to be one of the first recordings Rozz made at
this time as it is said to date from 1985. The listener will
instantly be aware how the music has matured since the first
recordings in 1981 and 1982. Rozz would have learned much
during his time spent at recording studios with Christian
Death, working with such renowned producers as Thom Wilson
and Eric Westfall. These are very complex, structured pieces
and both are previously unreleased in this full, unedited
form.. Tracks: 01 DISC A: Living Monstrosities 27:32 02 DISC
B: Descent 31:01 Living Monstrosities / Descent consists of
two separate pieces of music on each side of the cassette.
Living Monstrosities is on side A, and Descent is on side
B. Living Monstrosities makes use of various repeated sound
effects which gradually builds into a crescendo, and a repeated
vocal sample of 'the most astounding living monstrosity of
all time'. Descent is a purely instrumental recording, which
again relies on repeated sound effects forming a very dark,
menacing composition. Artwork: The original cassette sleeve
for Living Monstrosities / Descent survives and is also in
the possession of John Collins. The sleeve features a black
and white image of a screaming child being held down by an
unidentified adult, presumably a doctor or physician of some
kind. The original cassette artwork is quite dramatic, and
we simply chose to rotate the image 90 degrees in an anticlockwise
direction so that the child's face is the correct way up.
The next task was to remove the crease lines on the cassette
sleeve from the scanned artwork and then decide on the design
for the back cover. With only one image to work from, consideration
was given to selecting other artwork or images from Rozz's
vast body of work. However, we felt that we should be faithful
to the original cassette and adding unconnected images would
only distract and mislead fans. Our solution was to remove
the child's face, leaving just the adult's hands. We again
chose to incorporate a barcode to the back cover in keeping
with many previous PE releases. Since the barcodes used by
Rozz were purely decorative and served no other purpose, it
was our intention to use a replica of the one on the 1989
issue of the Death Cultures cassette. The use of the barcode
will be a common theme throughout the series.

4250137221397) Here at last, recovered from early 90's tape
releases, we find eleven unmissable tracks signed by the cult
band Templebeat (from defunct Machinery/Dynamica label), now
collected and remastered on CD. 11 ‘gems’ among which emerge
timeless fascinating tracks like ‘Human’, ‘Drugs’ or ‘Refuse
it’. Only few of these tracks (Interzone, Human…) appeared
