Con
Eva K. avete introdotto un nuovo elemento nel vostro progetto,
come avete avuto questa idea?
Ora siete soddisfatti della vostra scelta?
Volevamo dare alle nuove canzoni un'atmosfera più "pop".
Quindi una suadente voce femminile avrebbe dovuto starci al
meglio. Abbiamo iniziato a cercare una voce femminile tra
i nostri amici, finchè uno di loro (dalla band Astyplaz)
ci suggerì di provare una sua amica, Eva K.Realizzammo
una sessione di prova e restammo davvero affascinati dal suo
feeling, dalla sua voce e dalla sua personalità. E'
stato amore a prima vista!
Il
vostro nuovo album sembra essere più maturo del precedente,
soprattutto per gli arrangiamenti che rimandano molto al synth
pop anni '80.In
alcune tracce si sentono atmosfere vicine all'ultimo album
di Madonna "Confessions on a dance floor", è soltanto
una mia impressione?O davvero vi siete ispirati a questa artista
geniale? Quali sono le band alle quali di solito vi ispirate?
Hai
ragione sul discorso della maturità. Abbiamo passato
più di due anni in studio cercando di stabilire il
nostro nuovo sound e di produrre qualcosadi molto più
maturo di Anapteroma. Per quanto riguarda Madonna, non posso
dirti che ci siamo davvero ispirati al suo lavoro, ma volevamo
produrre un suono davvero coinvolgente che potesse passare
anche nei club e nelle radio, ma che avesse la vibrazione
e l'atmosfera giusta senza diventare troppo "generico" o naif.
Ci siamo ispirati (come sempre del resto!) a così tanti
stili di musica diversi e così tanti artisti che ora
è impossibile citarli tutti
Come
è stato accolto l'ultimo cd dal pubblico e dalla critica
fino ad ora?
In generale abbiamo ricevuto molti feedback
positivi.L'album sta andando bene con buone vendite ed abbiamo
anche ricevuto delle buonisime recensionida magazines ed ascoltatori
di tutto il mondo. Grazie a tutti!
Raccontateci
della scena alternativa greca (gruppi, etIchette, magazines,
club). E' davvero attiva o è chiusa come una scena
underground?
Entrambe le cose che dici sono vere.
La scena è molto attiva ma anche molto underground!Devo
dirti che la Grecia è un mercato piccolo per la musica
comunque quindi potrai capire che il settore underground sia
ancora più piccolo che nelle altre nazioni più
grandi. Ma penso che sia questo che rende le persone che sono
coinvolte nella musica alternativa molto più passionali
ed attive anche nelle circostanze più difficili.
Come
componete i pezzi? Utilizzate un computer o anche synths?
Li utilizziamo entrambi. Ed utilizziamo
anche le chitarre. Crediamo fortemente in canzoni che possono
essere suonate soltanto con una chitarra o un piano. Abbiamo
un'attitudine pop verso la melodia ed anche se spendiamo davvero
molto tempo nello scolpire il suono, non crediamo nel suono
senza la musica. Moltepersone al giorno d'oggi producono musica
cliccando su un tasto del mouse. Noi preferiamo pizzicare
le corde di una chitarra o mettere le mani su un veropianoforte.
Penso che potresti tranquillamente chiamarla "old school"
A quali band Decadance vi sentite maggiormente vicini
come suono?
Penso che la band Miriam sia quella
che si avvicina di più, ma non le abbiamo sentite tutte
Qual'è
il sogno che vorreste realizzare come Blue Birds Refuse To
Fly?
Siamo soddisfatti di quello che abbiamo
raggiunto fino ad ora: essere capaci di produrre musica che
viene dalle nostre teste ed offrirla al pubblico attraverso
i mezzi di un'amichevole ed onesta etichetta come la Decadance.
L'essere capaci di dare forma al suono ed alle melodie che
pensiamo al meglio e realizzare un'idea musicale. Quando tre
di noi sono in studio o sul palco, è bellissimo perchè
ci troviamo bene insieme e siamo migliori amici. Non vogliamo
diventare ricchi e famosi attraverso la musica !La musica
è un dono e noi siamo felici di riceverlo.

With
Eva K you introduced a new element in your project, how did
you think about it? Are you satisfied of your choice now?
We
wanted our new songs to have more of a 'pop' atmosphere. So,
a sensual female voice suited them best. We started searching
for a female vocalist among friends and one of them (from
the fellow band Astyplaz) suggested we tried a friend of his,
Eva K. We did a demo session and we were really excited with
her feeling, her voice and her character. So it was a complete
match from day one!
Your
new album seems to me more mature than the previous one, above
all for the very synth pop of 80's arrangments. In some track
it seems to have atmospheres near to the last Madonna album
"Confessions On A Dance Floor", is It just an impression of
mine? Or you really inspired to this genial artist? What are
the band you usually take inspiration from?
You
are right about the mature thing. We spent more than two years
in the studio trying to establish our new sound and produce
something much tighter and mature than 'Anapteroma'. As for
Madonna, I can't say we were really inspired by her work,
but we wanted to produce an evenly catchy sound than can also
be heard in clubs and on the radio and to have the vibe and
the atmosphere to achieve that without becoming too 'generic'
or naive sounding. We were (as always!) inspired by so many
different music styles and artists that it is impossible to
pick one!
How
has the new cd been reviewed
by the public and the press until now?
Generelly
we have received some great feedback. The album is doing well
sales-wise
and we also got some great reviews from
magazines and listeners worldwide. Thank you all!
Tell
me about the alternative Greek scene (bands, labels, magazines,
club). Is it really active in Greece or is it closed to the
undergound scene?
Both
things you say are true. The scene is very active but also
very underground! I must tell you that Greece is a small market
for music anyway so you can understand that the underground
sector is rather smaller than that of bigger countries. But
I think that this is that makes the people who are involved
in the alternative music more passionate and active against
the hard circumstances.
How
do you compose tracks? Do
you use just computer or also synths?
We use both. We also use guitars. We strongly
believe in songs that can be played with just one guitar or
a piano. We have a pop attitude towards melody and although
we may spend ages in the sculpture of the sound, we don't
believe in sound without music. Many people nowadays produce
music by clicking on a mouse button. We prefer to strike the
strings of a guitar or put our hands on a real piano. I guess
you can call us 'old school' on to what
Decadance
band do you feel closer as sound? that one!
I
think Miriam is the closest one! But we haven't heard all
of them!
What's
the dream you'd like to realize for the Blue Birds Refuse
To Fly?
We like what we have achieved so far: being
able to produce the music that comes to our heads and offer
it to the public through the means of a friendly and honest
record company such as Decadance. Being able to shape the
sound and the melodies the way we think best and realising
a musical idea. When the three of us are in the studio, or
on stage, it feels great because we enjoy each other's company
and we are best friends. We don't want to become rich and
famous through music! Music is a gift and we are happy to
receive it.
